SHOW INFO:
Martha Johnson and Mark Gane will be returning to their Queen St.
W. roots when they perform "reinterpretations" of the
MatM songbook as a duo in The Underground at Toronto's Drake Hotel
on Saturday, February 19th. This will mark the first time in 17
years they have performed a full set of MatM songs since the band
played its last show in Toronto in 1987 at The Diamond Club.
"We'll be doing a mix of songs from various periods, many of
which we haven't done in more than twenty years", says Martha.
"The idea is to eventually record the best versions of the
selected old songs as a duo with some new material as well and release
that on CD and doing this show is a great starting point."
"ICE AGE" UPDATE
Warren Stewart, Director of Catalogue Marketing at EMI Music Canada,
has confirmed that MatM's third and most sought-after album THIS
IS THE ICE AGE will be reissued on CD in spring 2005. Originally
released in 1981, this was the first of three ground-breaking albums
that MatM recorded with Daniel Lanois, legendary producer of U2,
Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno and Bob Dylan, among others.
In addition to the original track listing, two bonus cuts from the
same recording sessions will be included: TWENTY-TWO IN CINCINATTI
and I'M NO GOOD AT CONVERSATION , both originally released on vinyl
as B-sides. More ICE AGE info coming soon.

MARTHA JOHNSON GETS CO-WRITING CREDIT
ON GERMAN HIT SINGLE
When a fan in Germany emailed Martha and the Muffins last summer,
indicating that the popular German hip-hop outfit DIE FANTASTISCHEN
VIER (The Fantastic Four) had used part of a Muffins song in their
hit single TROY , Martha Johnson discovered that major elements
of her composition INDECISION (from MatM's 1980 album METRO MUSIC
) had been plagiarized. After she alerted the publisher of INDECISION
, Virgin Music Publishing UK, a settlement was reached with DIE
FANTASTISCHEN VIER and their publisher, Sony Music Germany. Martha
received half the writing credit forTROY while Virgin Music Publishing
UK gained 50% of the publishers' share. The singleTROY enjoyed high
chart positions in Germany for several weeks last summer and autumn
as did the album it was taken from, VIEL.
