The most requested MatM album finally
gets reissued 24 years after its 1981 vinyl debut!!!
"This Is The Ice Age" was the first of three ground-breaking
MatM colIaborations with the now legendary producer Daniel
Lanois and marks the beginning of his sister Jocelyne's association
as bass player with the band. Includes Swimming", "Women
Around The World At Work", "Casualties Of Glass",

London's Skies", "This Is The Ice Age", "One

Hundred Years/Chemistry" as well as two rare bonus tracks
from the same sessions,"I'm No Good At Conversation"
and "Twenty-Two In Cincinatti". Remastered by Peter
J. Moore at The E Room.
The C.D. reissue by EMI Canada is set for release on April
12th but this is your chance to buy your copy directly from

"This was a great time of innovation for the Muffins
and me."
- Daniel Lanois July 2004
"The great lost New Wave album - moody, detached, heartbroken…I
finally figured out how to digitize my old vinyl records this
year and "Ice Age" was the first, and best, to jump
the divide. Virgin, release this on CD or I'll start burning
copies for all of Boston."
- Ty Burr The Best CDs of 2003/The Boston Globe
"Swimming", which breaks us into the album is not
only some kind of ambiguous masterpiece but says as much as
any one track can about the overall tone of the album. It's
a beautifully slippery mood piece, set to a straggling syncopation,
which bursts into carnal brilliance with the dank, liguid
croon of Mark Gane…Impossibly catholic in form, the
record's unifying thread is its strange, modern melancholy."
- Dave Hill, NME, January 9, 1982
"There is no other band which emerged from Canada's fledgling
punk scene of a few years ago which matters. With the release
of their third album Martha and the Muffins not only prove
themselves superior in their native land but reveal a musical
and intellectual depth that is rare in rock'n'roll the world
over. "This Is The Ice Age" is not only a brilliant
musical work but stands on par with the music of artists like
Peter Gabriel, Roxy Music and David Bowie."
- James Muretich, The Calgary Sun, October 18, 1981

"INTIMATE
FLOOR SHOW" DVD IN THE WORKS
Martha and Mark want to thank everyone who showed up at The
Drake in Toronto on February 19th for their duo performance,
which by all accounts, was a resounding success, as well as
those who emailed after the show with their good words.
Martha says it was one of her favourite MatM shows ever and
thought the audience, vibe and venue were great. Mark agrees
but reports he was so intent on remembering everything he
was supposed to do that he wasn't relaxed until it was over
and he could talk with fans. Both think the show had a raw
intimate feel where neither one was sure what was going to
happen next but the audience was totally with them on the
ride which made it a one-of-a-kind experience.
"We are absolutely staggered by the loyalty and support
of our audience - those who were there at The Drake, some
who come from as far away as Syracuse and Chicago, as well
as everyone who watched the webcast from Paris to L.A. ",
says Mark.
Special thanks to Graham Stairs for suggesting the idea in
the first place, to Jeff Rogers, Mark Finkelstein and the
staff at The Drake for their hospitality and professionalism
and to our friends Marcus Vichert, Laurie Potts, Aaron and
Andrea Badgeley, David Johnson and Stewart Stein for their
personal assistance.
A DVD of the live streaming of the show to the Internet was
recorded off the webcam and will soon be available for sale
as a limited edition "official bootleg". More details
to follow soon.
